This movie looked like it had promise.
I like Steve Carell and Jason Segal, and I figured combining them with
a bunch of silly twinkie's wearing assorted goggles would equal good times
for my four year-old tot as well as myself and the wife. Shortly after
the lights dimmed I chuckled a few times at Steve Carell's voice, but soon
the chuckles stopped. As much as I wanted to enjoy the movie, it felt like
nothing of merit was actually happening on screen. That left me to rely
on the jokes, and unfortunately the jokes were not that great either. Before
you accuse me of being too old to enjoy them I should tell you it wasn't
just me who felt that way, my daughter was eerily silent as well. That
is until she started asking me repeatedly if it was time to go yet about
half way through the film. This is not a terrible movie by any means, but
I guess I have been spoiled with all of the Pixar and Shrek films
of the past into thinking that maybe the studios were now trying harder
to beef up the scripts of family movies. Alas, this movie was animation
mediocrity at it's finest. You probably won't regret watching it, but do
yourself a favor and wait for it to come out on DVD, at least that way
the disappointment won't be reflected in your wallet along with your face.
Sigh.
