HEFE'S REVIEW OF:
ARLINGTON ROAD

OPENING THOUGHTS

I can remember watching this movie when it first came out, and by that I remember the physical act of watching the movie. As for what actually happens in the story, I was amazed to find out that I had no real recollection of what went on in this movie. So I took a look at the box, saw that Jeff Bridges and Tim Robbins were in it and decided to watch it again. Also I was confined to a hospital room with nothing to do but watch movies, so I think that also helped give me the urge to watch this again.

ACTING

JEFF BRIDGES did a good job, but every time I see him in a movie I am just so saddened by the fact that he is not playing The Dude again. It essentially means that everything he did before and everything he will do in the future is already ear marked for disappointment. Did he do a bad job? No, the answer is no, but he needed to have long hair and be having long conversation about the piss stains on his rug before I give him a full pat on the back. So for now I will just lightly touch his back in the most heterosexual way possible.
TIM ROBBINS is a cool guy, I dig his movies and I dig his style. It's amazing the variety of roles he can play convincingly without having to look like he is trying. Maybe it's because he seems so trustworthy, like I believe him when he tells me who he is, and that is all I need. I do know this, Tim Robbins has creepy eyes when he opens them up all of the way. All he needs to do is look at you with those wide crazy eyes, and in a matter of seconds he can see the things in your soul that you don't tell anybody about. He can see your masturbating habits, he knows, look at him, he fucking knows! I think that is important in a villain.
HOPE DAVIS has been dying of cancer since the first time I saw her. She looks so depressed all of the time, like it is taking every last effort to make this movie before the cancer eats her dead. It's not that she is not believable, but I would like to see her play more emotions other than life-less. Like... umm... happy... sure happy, there's a good one.
JOAN CUSACK is not evil, and she needs to more than to just tell me she is evil for me to believe that she is. That shit may work for Tim Robbins, but then again, he is Tim Robbins. Are you Tim Robbins, no you are not Tim Robbins! Scott Bayo, he is not Tim Robbins either! So you need to show me you are evil, get yourself a weapon, a chilling cackle, or blood covered hands next time, then we will talk.

DIRECTION AND SCRIPT

ERHEN KRUGER is a first timer here, he actually won a screenwriting competition to get this movie made, so I am sure he is as excited as balls to have this film made. I know I would be screaming and shitting my pants until there was nothing left inside of me but veins. I would just run around screaming with shit and blood shooting out on the ground behind me like some sort of fucked up version of Hansel And Gretel. So did he deserve the award? I dunno, I didn't see the other finalists so it is hard to say. I thought the idea was a good one, especially for the time, people were all wrapped up with internal terrorism. Now everyone looks to the desert for their terrorists so I don't know how well this movie would play now. My main problem with this movie was that it was sort of boring. I mean the story was interesting, the characters were good, I even liked the back story. It just seemed boring though, like I wanted to be watching something else. It could have been because I had been cooped up inside the hospital for so long, but I am not going to watch it again to find out. You can watch it if you love it so damn much!

THE VERDICT

If you love terrorists you will love this movie, the whole movie is full of angry men and bombs. If you are normal and don't like terrorists, then I think you will find this movie to be pretty average. There is nothing that makes you remember this movie, I have proof, because I didn't remember shit! I would not call this a bad movie though, don't get me wrong, I have just seen better.
