HEFE'S REVIEW OF:
ANNIE HALL

OPENING THOUGHTS

You have all heard of this movie, I have heard of this movie for years, but never got around to watching it. The first paragraph of the description on the back of the box pretty much just jerks itself on your face telling you that it is one of the greatest films ever made. After you clean your face off read the rest of the review and I will tell you if it is really worth a load in the face.

ACTING

WOODY ALLEN is... well... he is Woody Allen, and he has never been more Woody Allen then he has in this movie. All of the impressions you see terrible comics doing all of the time of Woody Allen stem from this movie, I am almost sure of it. He actually does a pretty good job, and maybe here more than in any of his other movies, the nervous character actually works. Although, even then everyone knows that the only reason he was able to get ass like Diane Keaton is because he writes it that way. In real life the only girl he can get is his daughter... ewwwww...
DIANE KEATON plays Annie Hall, the free spirited girl who is tagged as not so bright because she doesn't know all of the worthless shit that Woody Allen's character knows. She is a little ball of sunshine in this movie and it earned her an Academy Award, I don't know if it was really good enough for that, but the performance was above par for sure. But if you are looking to see her tits you can think again, you will need to wait until they sag down to her knees 30 years later to get a peek at those. What a waste.
CHRISTOPHER WLAKEN or should I say Walken was in this film, and no I didn't misspell his name, he was credited in this film this way by mistake. It was weird to see him looking so young, he definitely looks better as an older guy, in this film he looks like the walking dead, and you know what, come to think of it, he looked that way in The Deer Hunter as well. Anyway, I think he had three lines in this film, I guess that is better than two.

DIRECTION AND SCRIPT

WOODY ALLEN directed this film and he actually did a good job I think, the pacing was good and there were lots of innovative shots in this film which I think are considered normal now, but at the time were very cooky.
WOODY ALLEN and MARSHALL BRICKMAN wrote the screenplay which earned them a golden man statue, and I have to say it was good. It might very well be the best Woody Allen movie there is. There was not a lot of wasted dialogue it was all witty and smart for the most part. I think this may have been the first movie that used the talking to the camera and the extras technique. Normally I hate it when movies do that, but I really liked it in this movie. Maybe it was because it was done in such a seamless surprising way, it seemed to happen when I least expected it. Definitely the script though was the best part of the film.

THE VERDICT

This really is a good movie, I don't know that I would watch it over and over or anything, but I am glad that I watched it. The movie itself is really funny, but I think there should have been better actors in this film, I think with different people this movie would have been a lot better. But if you have not seen this movie, and you don't hate Woody Allen that you should see what all the hub bub is about, just make sure you bring a towel to wipe off all of the cock spit that is bound to land on your face when you read the back of the box.
