HEFE'S REVIEW OF:
AMERICAN DREAMZ

OPENING THOUGHTS

This movie got a ton of advertising when it came out into theaters, but no one seemed to notice when it came out on DVD. But I did, I noticed, so much so that I rented it. But would this movie be worth a shit? Only reading will answer your question...

ACTING

HUGH GRANT does an excellent impression of Simon from American Idol. After about a quarter of the film you realize that an impression is really all that is going on here. Nothing more comes of it, and by the end I found myself wishing that he would have saved that impression for when he hosted SNL rather than stretching it out into a lead role in a movie. Oh well, he did do a good job of mocking the person he was supposed to be portraying so I guess all I can say is good job and feel bad for the piss-poor writing.
DENNIS QUAID was doing a parody of President Bush, they never say that it is supposed to be Bush, but you would have to have bucket of sloshing diarrhea for brains if you didn't make that connection. His impression was almost as good as Will Ferrell's impression of Bush except for one thing... what the fuck was it... Oh yes how could I forget, it didn't have the humor.
MANDY MOORE can sing, as for acting... eh, not so much, which is disappointing because I didn't hate her in the film Saved!. But boy are her teeth perfect.
CHRIS KLEIN cost me fifty bucks, I made a bet that Klein died and we would never see him in another movie. But he showed up again, just like that rash encircling my asshole. Just when I thought it was cleared up... it's back for another round of itchy retribution.

DIRECTION AND SCRIPT

PAUL WEITZ is the son of a bitch responsible for this movie sucking balls. It was average in every way. It never grew a pair of big enough balls to make a point about anything, and the ending was ridiculous and cheap. They might as well have had Smashmouth come up on stage and sing instead of writing an actual ending. The best way I can describe this movie is two badly written Saturday Night Live sketches sewn together at the asshole with anything that might be recognizable as an opinion about politics or pulp culture carefully removed. I bet old people who think Jay Leno is edgy and funny would think this movie is great, which should tell you just how shitty this movie is.

THE VERDICT

Steer clear of this one, it is a funny movie in concept but trust me is about as flat and boring as a comedy can be. You would be better off counting your ball hairs and comparing totals with your grandpa... which is a complete waste of time because you know he always wins.
