AMERICAN BEAUTY (1999)

OPENING THOUGHTS

    I HATED THIS MOVIE!! Alright, that didn't work, I'm not fooling anyone. I really loved this movie, I mean dammit, it was just so damn good... dammit. This movie was great enough that I allowed my self to use a form of the word dammit three times in one sentence. I gave it the coveted "A" rating, a extremely rare award, even better than an Oscar... kind of.

ACTING

    KEVIN SPACEY, oh Kevin Spacey, so good in everything you do, I wanna thank you. In this movie Spacey said the line "I rule!" and he does, he really does. His acting is so real, I really feel like he is the character, that is so rare.
    ANNETTE BENING, oh Annette Bening, so irritating in everything you do, go away. I really wish that she had not been in this movie, she bugs the crap out of me, she is so stuck up and snooty in every role that she plays, here's an idea, try branching out! My guess would be that she is incapable of branching and is doomed to remain acting like a bitch until she dies.
    MENA SUVARI, or as we all call her, "high forehead girl", played the supposedly sexy high school girl. Man, does she ever suck, I can't deny that her performance wasn't bad, but the way she talks from her ugly lips makes me unable to concentrate on her performance. But even these things could not take away from this movie or Kevin Spacey's performance enough to let this get anything less than my highest rating.

DIRECTION AND SCRIPT

    SAM MENDES, who makes his debut with this film, got the honor of directing this movie, and boy what a way to pop your cherry! I thought this movie was directed wonderfully, the way this movie was set up visually was breathtaking. Hey that made me sound like a real movie reviewer, eat that Ebert! But seriously this movie had me from the opening scene, it's just so damn good!

THE VERDICT

    So in conclusion I would say never see this movie if you like shitty movies like XXX and The Adventures Of Pluto Nash, because this movie is really good. This movie also has an important message about our nation, and I believe it is this message (which will probably mean something different to every one) that allows an audience to really connect with this movie. Watch this movie dammit!
