HEFE'S REVIEW OF:
ALEX AND EMMA

OPENING THOUGHTS

I really had no desire to see this movie, after seeing previews for a string of unappealing Kate Hudson movies such as Le Divorce How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, Raising Helen, and Sluts On Benches Without Helmets 14, I just sort of grouped this movie in as another piece of shit I didn't want to look at. I said I didn't want to look at it! But then I also knew that Luke Wilson was in it who I happen to enjoy, but as everyone knows the Hating Hudson card trumps the Liking Wilson Wild Card. But as fate would happen this movie flopped right on to my cock and appeared on HBO. So I watched it, but what does that mean?

ACTING

KATE HUDSON grew on me during this movie, I remembered that I liked her in Almost Famous, and after about 15 minutes of seeing her on the screen my intense hatred melted away and I was ready to jack off... I mean enjoy the rest of the movie, you know what I am talking about right, when I say enjoy the movie I mean jack off to it. She has a great smile and I think that smile may cloud my judgment, because every time she smiles I smile and I think she is doing a good job. Although I have to say no amount of smiling could make up for how bad she was as the foreign characters in this movie. Maybe it was on purpose, but man it sucked. I liked her when she was just being herself. If your lucky enough to find someone who can make you smile all the time you should hang on to them. See how fucking romantic I can be and shit?
LUKE WILSON was also good in this movie, I mean he was Luke Wilson, he pretty much always plays the same character but I think he does a really good job. His humor is a lot more subtle than his brother Owen's but it works for him. I like his little comments and understated reactions, they provide a nice bit of comedy and always make it seem like he has chemistry with whoever he is acting along side with. It also gives his characters depth because he is not so one sided, he always something that makes him sound like a smart ass. A half shaven smart ass.
SOPHIE MARCEAU is yet another replacement in a frightening trend sweeping Hollywood of replacing high paid actors with people who look very similar and then not mentioning it. It is quite obvious to me that she is Catherine Zeta Jones' replacement, I mean look at her, she looks similar, has the same haircut, comes from Europe, and married Michael Douglas. Past victims of this startling trend include Vincent D'Onofrio who was replaced by Mark Ruffalo and Harrison Ford being replaced by the guy from the Lamisil AT foot cream commercials. So how was she, fine I guess, I can't say i would have preferred Jones over her, I guess I don't give a shit.

DIRECTIONANDSCRIPT

ROB REINER did a good job with direction and capturing the feel of the two different worlds. I liked the transition between the two worlds, and I liked how things would change when Alex and Emma would argue about the story. Pretty good job for a romantic comedy.
JEREMY LEVEN wrote a script that was pretty inventive and fun for a romantic comedy. Of course in order to get to the part where you enjoy this movie you have to get to past a major hump of believability. If you can get past the fact that the main character has to write a novel in 30 days in order to get enough money to pay off his debt with the Cuban mafia who destroyed his laptop, and the fact that because he has no laptop he therefor must hire a legal stenographer to dictate his words then I think you will have a shot and enjoying this movie. I had a hard time with this because I didn't understand why he couldn't just go use a friend's computer, or go to the library, or order a new computer from those Blue Hippo commercials where there is no money down and all you need is a checking account. But past that I enjoyed how there were two separate stories going on in this movie that both relied on each other. I liked how they would argue about the story and then things would change and we would see it happen in world of the book. I would have liked to have seen that utilized more. I would also like another half inch in girth on my cock so that it truly is the size of a baby's arm.

THEVERDICT

This movie was really surprising to me, I ended up liking this movie a lot more than I would have thought. If you can get past the huge story flaw in the beginning of this movie (read my rant under Jeremy Leven's review because I am not fucking typing it again!) then you will like this movie. I am punishing the movie by giving it a C +, but I think with a few small tweaks I could have easily given this movie a B -, bottom line for a romantic comedy this movie is pretty freaking good. Go watch it with someone special and see if you can grab a hand full of their boob.
