HEFE'S REVIEW OF:
A.I. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

OPENING THOUGHTS

I saw this movie a long time ago and I remember thinking it was boring and it felt awkward to watch. But I decided that I should give this movie another chance since after all it was directed and written by Steven Spielberg. So on the second time around my opinions be cemented or would the movie be vindicated. The answer can be found in the paragraphs below... (there should be an echo there.)

ACTING

HALEY JOEL OSMENT played an android, he was ok I guess, to be honest I have never been a huge fan of this kid. As far as I am concerned he is only half a step above Mikey on the Life cereal commercials. So the fact that he was the star of this movie really hurt it in my opinion. David really should have been played by Dakota Fanning.
JUDE LAW was actually very good in this movie, normally I am not a big fan of him, but he really played the role of a cold robotic love machine very well. Perhaps that is because it is closer to who he actually is in real life than any other role he has ever played. Oh snap! What did I do? I think I just burned you Jude Law! Yeah, it feels good.
FRANCES O'CONNOR played the weepy-eyed "mommy" in this movie. I have to say I really was not impressed with her. I can only speculate as to how she got a role in a Spielberg movie, so all I can say is I hope she at least had to swallow Speilled-Sperm.

DIRECTION AND SCRIPT

STEVEN SPIELBERG really made a mistake in doing this movie. I am sure he felt honored being asked by another legend to make the movie he always wanted to make. But you know what he really should have made it his own. Stanley Kubrick's movie all suck for the most part anyway, I am sorry I know I just pissed a lot of people off, but it is true. It seemed like Spielberg was trying to do a Kubrick impression and try to make this movie as boring and as lifeless as 2001: A Space Odyssey. This movie was awkward to watch, and outside of the Teddy the CGI bear there was really not much in this whole movie that I enjoyed.

THE VERDICT

This movie really was a giant mistake. It is long, boring, and awkward and I don't foresee me watching this movie ever again. When the best thing that you can say about a movie is that Jude Law was in it, you know that you have a problem. I am confident this is probably the worst rating s Steven Spielberg movie will ever receive.
