HEFE'S REVIEW OF:
ADAPTATION (2002)

OPENING THOUGHTS

Every time I see this movie I like it more and more and more and more and more and more, sorry I dozed off there for a second, butt I really do like the this movie. I mean I like all of the movies written by Charlie Kaufman, but I think this has to be my favorite so far. Are you wondering why I like it so much, well my inquisitive friend there are many reasons waiting for you just below!

ACTING

NICOLAS CAGE was freaking awesome in this movie, if he ever deserved an Academy Award, it was for this movie, I am sorry but he was much better here than he was in Leaving Las Vegas and he was certainly much better than Adrien Brody was in The Pianast, which happens to be the person that beat him out for the Oscar that year. Honestly though when I was watching this movie there were many times when I got so involved with the characters that I would forget that the Nicolas Cage was not a pair of fat balding twin writers, I know that is weird but he did a really good job, and to think he was acting opposite himself, I mean imagine how much better a movie like Double Impact would have been if they had replaced Jean Claude Van Dame with two fat balding Nicolas Cages.
MERYL STREEP sucks so bad it hurts, and she is an ugly old woman who should not be in movies. She should take her misty eyed performances and Medusa like face and jump off a building. You know she's alright though, I don't want her to die, I just want her to go the hell away, or die whatever. Anyway, she is the only person I didn't like in this movie, and I don't think she deserved the nomination she received for this movie, her performance was no different in this film than any of the other shit she has done before. I'm sorry Meryl, but fuck you and your ugly mouth.
CHRIS COOPER was the only person nominated for this movie that actually won, and he really did deserve it. He was fantastic as the smart hillbilly John LaRoche. His character was, aside from being written very well, played very well, every type of emotion came out Cooper. He managed to be charming even though he didn't have any front teeth, and that's not easy to do unless your some spoiled shit on a Life Cereal box.

DIRECTION AND SCRIPT

CHARLIE KAUFMAN and DONALD KAUFMAN have written one of the most original scripts I have ever seen. I mean this movie doesn't just blur the line between movie and reality, it takes a dump all over the line, and then smears it about so you can't see the line and then you find yourself asking the inevitable question, "is that really what I am seeing?" I mean the main character is a real person who is writing a screenplay for the movie that you are watching. As if that wasn't fucked up enough, he creates a fictional twin brother to help him with the script, and then credits the fictional twin on the actual box of the movie! I still am not sure how much of the movie is fiction, and how much was based off the actual book written by Susan Orlean. In fact until very recently I didn't even know that Susan Orlean was a real person. I mean this movie is so damn original I don't even know where to begin, I mean it's as if somebody is just fucking my mind the entire time I am watching this movie, and I am so amazed by what is happening I just blink slowly as my mind is humped by a laughing Charlie Kaufman. It is absolutely ridiculous to me that this movie did not win Best Original Screenplay, they gave it some foreign movie called Talk To Her. Now I have not seen that movie, but I can tell you on principal there is no damn fucking way that a foreign movie should have won anything other than best Foreign Film at the American Academy Awards. If any movie from any country can win any award than what is the fucking point of having a Best Foreign Film award? No, really I am fucking asking you because this is bullshit! Oh my God I was so mad! I don't care though.

THE VERDICT

If you want to watch something that is unlike anything you have ever seen, than watch this movie, but bring plenty of rubbers because you are in for one hell of a mind fuck. Top notch acting from Nicolas Cage and Chris Cooper make up for a shitty performance by Meryl Streep, even she couldn't make this movie any less amazing. I mean I gave this movie an A didn't I? Go watch it! Look, I don't know how else to say it, and I can't really type sign language so just go!
