HEFE'S REVIEW OF:
ACE VENTURA:WHEN NATURE CALLS

OPENING THOUGHTS

This is one of the few sequels that is actually better than the original. The main reason, was not Jim Carrey (although, really who else could have pulled off this role?) it was the excellent writing. A lot of sequels fall into the trap of trying to essentially remake it's predecessor, what was so cool about this movie, is that it just took the main character and gave him a new adventure, forget his girlfriend from the first one, who cares about how he got to Africa. It worked in Indiana Jones, it worked for James Bond, and it works for Ace Ventura.

ACTING

JIM CARREY was wonderful as Ace Ventura, this role was made for him, he gets to be as rubbery as he so desires, and gets to show off his physical comedy here more than in any other role. The jokes are non-stop in this movie, and Jim Carrey is able to lovingly make each one worth while, seamlessly going from greeting natives with "Bumblee Tuna" to letting them no politely that "their balls are showing." Jim Carrey is easily one of the best comedy actors in the history of film.
THE SUPPORTING CAST in this movie did it's job, for the most part that's what they did, they supported Carrey's one man show. It's an important role to play, because after all, who really wants to see a one man show anyway. I'd rather see a guy steal the show from all of the other actors!

DIRECTION AND SCRIPT

STEVE OEDEKERK is hilarious to me. For those of you who don't know who this guy is, he is the one responsible for all of the Thumb movies that you have no doubt seen on the internet or at some party somewhere. I think they are fucking hysterical. He is also the star of the movie Kung Pow: Enter The Fist, and the writer of other films such as The Nutty Professor. He really just has an incredibly silly style of humor, that is really just all over the place. His writing is so witty that it's almost like it's improved. I really don't think that anyone else could have written this movie and have it be one tenth as funny. As I said earlier, I was so glad that this movie was so completely different from the first Ace Ventura, I think it might otherwise have sucked, or gotten tired (Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me is a perfect example of a movie that is just a remake of the original, and it's getting a little old. Now, I like Austin Powers, and I think the third one would have been just as funny if it had been the first one, but it wasn't.) like some other movies I know.

THE VERDICT

If you liked the first Ace Ventura than you should see this movie, if you like comedies you should see this movie, if you have a pulse you should see this movie, oh who the fuck am I kidding, who hasn't seen this movie. Maybe like depressed old people, and they really need it more than anyone. In fact, as a good deed, why don't you find an old person and let him watch this movie, God will smile on you, and than you will feel good inside. Happy... so happy.
