HEFE'S REVIEW OF:
ACCEPTED

OPENING THOUGHTS

When I saw the previews for this movie I laughed pretty thoroughly at the "Ask me about my wiener!" line, but still thought this movie looked like a rental. I figured this would just be another lame attempt at trying to remake American Pie, and since there is now a steady stream of American Pie straight to video releases, I figured I could wait awhile.

ACTING

JUSTIN LONG seems like a real cool guy and he is very natural in front of the camera, that being said I will never believe that he is still in high school and I will never prefer a MAC to a PC no matter how much they try to tell people that it is better. Long was not bad in this movie though, as I said he was comfortable and cool, and was at least more convincing than Drew Barrymore in high school... right... right... anyone?
LEWIS BLACK is one of my favorite fucking comedians, that being said he has no business being in a PG-13 movie. He needs to be swearing and ranting and raving, the ranting and raving just isn't as powerful without the swearing. But he was still good, and it was nice to see him out of a suit and tie.
THE SUPPORTING CAST in this film was mostly over the top. All of the small characters were boring and cartoonish, but there is one stand-out performance, Jonah Hill. He is the fat kid who says the afore mentioned "wiener" line. You may also know him as the fat kid from the Ebay store in 40-Year-Old Virgin. This guy is really, really funny. He has good timing, and a very unique delivery. I don't know where this son of a bitch came from, but I want him to come over and play Nintendo with me.

DIRECTION AND SCRIPT

STEVE PINK is a man, and his last name is Pink... heh heh. This is his first time directing a movie, prior to this all he did was help write scripts for John Cusack movies. He didn't do a bad job, he tried to throw an artsy shot in the middle of a montage scene, and remarkably it worked. By the way this dude's last name is Pink... heh heh.
ADAM COOPER, BILL COLLAGE, and MARK PEREZ wrote a pretty decent script here. It was an issue that most teens can relate too, the pressure of going to college, but it was also well written... for the most part. There were way to many theme characters in this movie, by that I mean characters that were a one-trick-pony so to speak. All they did was take away from what could have been a very solid comedy movie. Well I guess you have to expect something in the script to be weak when 2/3 of the team that brought you New York Minute team up for another round.

THE VERDICT

This is actually a pretty funny movie, the acting for the most part is good and the writing isn't half bad either, except in both cases for the supporting characters. I would recommend seeing this movie just for Jonah Hill, he really makes the movie memorable. So give that deep thinking mind of yours a break and feed it some funny.
