HEFE'S REVIEW OF:
28 DAYS

OPENING THOUGHTS

For a romantic comedy, this movie actually wasn't that bad, in fact this movie had a strong C +, or maybe even a B - going for it until I saw the ending. Man did I hate the ending in this movie, there was no closure at all, it was like well we ran out of tape and I am too tired to start another role, so lets just end it with a freeze frame. Nice cop out bitches!

ACTING

SANDRA BULLOCK was the star of this movie, and as always she plays a bad girl who deep down is a nice girl, and at this point she has gotten pretty good at it. As much as I would like to see certain people stretch their wings and try something new, Bullock isn't one of them. She knows what type of roles she can handle, and pretty much sticks to them.
VIGGO MORTENSEN I hated like a kick in the balls, Mortensen who played Gwen's (Sandra Bullock) love buddy, was irritating to say the least! BOOOOOO! Who could possibly think that he would go on to star in one of the most successful movies in history? Well, not me that's for sure.
THE SUPPORTING CAST in this movie really breathed life into an otherwise lifeless movie about boring characters. Each of her fellow screw-ups in rehab all had unique personalities that were all funnier than shit in their own ways. My three favorites would have to be Alan Tudyk who played a foreign gay guy named Gerhardt, Reni Santoni who played Daniel, a man angry enough to give himself his own throat operation, and Michael O'Malley who played the jokester of rehab named Oliver. We must also thank Steve Buscemi for being awesome, and try not to think to harshly of him for being in this movie.

DIRECTION AND SCRIPT

SUSANNAH GRANT has made a script that is completely average. This movie is nothing more than a crappy attempt to try and make a romantic comedy with a woman as the lead, so as to get women to drag their boyfriends to see this crap. All though I will say, the characters and lines from the supporting cast allowed this movie to get a much better grade than it would have gotten if it tried to be a serious romance movie. Please whatever you do, if you write another screenplay, make sure you have a freaking ending ready to go. There is nothing I hate more than a bad ending, and this ending was bad enough to cost you a whole letter downgrade.

THE VERDICT

This movie was decent overall, but lost a lot of credit in the end. The fact that they never say what happens with Eddie Boone and Gwen pissed me right off. Oh well, I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes romantic comedies. On a positive note, The Violent Femmes' music is featured in this movie, so it couldn't be all bad! Don't worry guys there are enough jokes from the supporting cast to make you laugh so it won't be completely painful. I mean with lines like "Oh my God, look at my package!" you know there will be something to like.
