HEFE'S REVIEW OF:
13 GHOSTS (2001)

OPENING THOUGHTS

    This movie all around was just nothing special. It had a remade story, which is I'm sorry very similar to about a million other horror flicks, and while the acting was decent the story sucked so bad that it was too distracting to make this movie worth watching again.

ACTING

    SHANNON ELIZABETH is so freaking pretty! Now for those of you who don't know about my love for Shannon Elizabeth, you will now, I think Shannon Elizabeth is one of the most fuckable stars in Hollywood, dear lord Shannon come to Hefe! Anyways Elizabeth had a somewhat small role in this movie, and was in my opinion grossly underused, not to mention over clothed. On the back of the box the movie says it was rated R for nudity, my ass, zombie ghost funbags do not count!
    MATTHEW LILLARD was also used poorly in this movie, I felt he acted very well as he usually does, but I felt his character should have been developed more. I am not sure why Lillard keeps talking these bad movie roles like Wing Commander and this crap. I don't know if it's Hollywood holding you back, or yourself, but something must be done, and soon. I can only remember Scream and more importantly SLC Punk for so long before I start to forget.
    TONY SHALHOUB really outdid himself. I have never seen him act that well in my life. I have seen him in a bit part in Men in Black and also on the television series Wings but I never knew his potential until now. Maybe now he will get a real shot at acting.

DIRECTION AND SCRIPT

    STEVE BECK had some great looking ghosts to go with, and while it may have been partly the fault of the screenwriters, these ghosts were severely underused. I hated the fact that the ghosts didn't actually do anything for the most part other than stand there motionless looking scary. Most of the time you didn't even get a good look at them because they were just quick flashes. Needless to say I would like to have seen better use of the ghosts here people!
    NEAL MARSHALL STEVENS and RICHARD D'OVIDIO have, as I said, made a script that is just recycled garbage. It is another haunted house movie,  and oh no were trapped inside, can we survive? Who cares, how about making something new for a change? While there was some talk about a devil's eye and about how the house ran off of the entrapped spirits of ghosts, they never went into any detail. It was just a serious of shots of people running through hallways screaming. P-lease! Not to mention the fact that there wwas all of these cool looking ghosts, and there was no cool little story behind them, nothing to give the ghost that "real" touch.

THE VERDICT

    If you like horror movies then I am sure that you will like this one as well. I tend to be disappointed in horror movies because I always have high expectations and am always let down. So if you like horror movies then watch this movie, if you share my point of view on horror flicks then don't watch it. It's that simple. Just don't be fooled into thinking your going to see Shannon Elizabeth's perky pair, because you won't.
