This movie is based on the book of the same name by Thomas Harris, who also adapted the book into a screenplay himself.
This movie is a prequel to the movie Red Dragon, which is itself a prequel to Silence Of The Lambs.
Several actors were auditioned for the role of Hannibal Lecter before the role was given to Gaspard Ulliel. It is rumored that among the actors who didn't make the cut were Hayden Christensen and Macaulay Culkin.
A prop of a decapted head seen in this movie, along with a fake rubber penis were stolen from the set of this film.
