Academy Award nominee Will Smith (Best Actor The Pursuit Of Happyness, 2006) stars in this action-packed comedy as Hancock, a sarcastic, hard-living and misunderstood superhero who has fallen out of favor with the public.

This script was originally called Tonight, He Comes and it was written ten years ago. In recent years Warner Brothers has the rights but passed on making the film and then Sony picked it up. The name was eventually changed to John Hancock before finally being named just Hancock.
At one point Dave Chappelle was considered for the lead role in this film.
This marks the second time that Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron have played a couple. The first played off each other in the TV series Arrested Development.
