    When Martin Scorsese, one of the world's most skillful and respected directors, reunited with two-time Oscar winner Robert De Niro in Goodfellas, the result was one of the most powerful films of the year. Based on the true-life best seller Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi and backed by a dynamic pop/rock oldies soundtrack, critics and filmgoers declared Goodfellas great. It was named 1990's best film by the New York, Los Angeles and National Society of Film Critics. And it earned six Academy Award Nominations including Best Picture and Best Director.
    Robert De Niro recieved wide recognition for his performance as veteran criminal Jimmy Conway. And as the volatile Tommy DeVito, Joe Pesci walked off with the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Academy Award nominee Lorraine Bracco, Ray Liotta and Paul Sorvino also turned in electrifying performances. TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

• This book is based on the book Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi who also adapted the story to film. The name was changed to Goodfellas to avoid confusion with the short lived TV series Wiseguy.
• The word "fuck" or a variant is said in this film 296 times, which works out to an average of 2.04 "fucks" per minute. Nearly half of them are said by Joe Pesci.
• Martin Scorsese's parents both have small roles in this film.
• Ray Liotta spent several months visiting the real Henry Hill that this film is based on in order to get a feel for the character he was going to play. In addition he also listened to audio recordings of Hill that the FBI had to and from the set everyday to remind himself of the way that Hill sounded.
• The real Henry Hill was kicked out of the Witness Protection Program after the premiere of this movie because he went around bragging to everyone that he was the real Henry Hill and it would do no good for the government to keep paying to hide his identity.
• Much of the dialogue in this film was improvised including the infamous Joe Pesci scene in which he asks: "You think I'm funny?"
