WHAT THE STUDIO WANTS YOU TO KNOW
DESCRIPTION:
Steve Carell is in CONTROL
as Maxwell Smart, the novice agent often out of his depth but never out
of options in this action comedy pitting him against the nuclear scheme
of the evil spy group KAOS. Anne Hathaway partners with Max as ever-capable
Agent 99. And director Peter Segal (The Longest Yard) guides his
stars (including Dwayne Johnson and Alan Arkin) through the dangerous realm

This movie is based on the 1965 TV series created by Mel
Brooks and Buck Henry. The TV show was also adapted into a made for TV
movie in 1989 called Get Smart, Again! starring the original cast
of the 1965 show. In 1995 the show was reinvented for a short lived television
run in which Maxwell had become the chief of CONTROL.
-
James Caan who plays the President in this film was also
a golfing partner with the original Maxwell Smart, Don Adams, he is also
the only principal character in the film to have appeared in the TV series.
Caan appeared in a 2 part series titled To Sire With Love on the
show as Rupert of Rathskeller, although he was uncredited.
-
In addition to starring in the film Steve Carell also did
some uncredited rewrites of the script along with his The Office
co-star B.J. Novak.
-
The Persian voice on the tape talking about muffins that
Steve Carell is translating for all of the agents was actually recorded
by Carell himself.
-
The man in the car that Maxwell tries to stop and who ends
up getting rear-ended is Bernie Kopell, the actor who played Siegfried
in the original series.
