G BABY'S REVIEW OF:
FIGHT CLUB (1999)

OPENING THOUGHTS

This movie is really good. Mom said it was psychologically taught. I think it's cool that I can watch it time and time again and still enjoy it even though I know the "surprise ending." And there's a reason I can still enjoy it. The reason is... well... come with me and I'll show you.

ACTING

BRAD PITT is bitchin' in this movie. That's the best word and the only word that came to mind as I was watching him act. He played his character so well, and I don't think anybody could have done better than him in this role. He's so cool and I wanted to dress and act just like him. But I just don't have the hips for it.
EDWARD NORTON was also really good. He and Brad Pitt were the best dynamic duo since Batman fucked Robin in the bird-hole. His style of acting was perfect for the role and it worked perfectly with Brad Pitt's style. The chemistry was magnificent.
HELENA BONHAM CARTER or Helen, (that's my nickname for her) was really terrible looking in this movie. That's good though, because her looks worked great with the part. She does a good American accent, but not as good as that dude who plays on that TV show House.
MEAT LOAF ADAY has huge nipples. I don't really want to say anything else about him.

DIRECTION AND SCRIPT

DAVID FINCHER did such a great job directing this movie. It seems like ever since this movie came out there have been many directors that try to imitate the style, but nobody can do it as well as it was done in Fight Club. I bet Fincher was influenced by other people, but I don't remember seeing anything like it before. It's so unique and so well executed.
JIM UHLS wrote a really great screenplay based on the book by Chuck Palahniuk. I took a creative writing class in college so I had to pretend I knew who that guy is. I achieved this by nodding my head everytime the hairy hippies started talking about him. They'll never know that to me the only cool thing he's done with his life was write some gay book that was turned into a great movie. Books suck, so I've never read the book but I know the story is very interesting... because I've seen the movie. It has so much to say and it says it in a cool way. Even if you don't understand everything or you don't agree with the messages, it's still something to listen to. I must say the "big surprise" in the end started a trend that got old really fast. It was a great idea the first time I saw it in this movie, but it should have stayed here. I guess it was just such a cool idea that everybody wanted to copy it. Another thing I liked about this movie is that it wasn't just a big set-up for the surprise ending. A filmmaker that falls into that trap quite often is M. Night Shyamalan, especially in The Village. It seems like his movies end up being just one big set-up for the surprise ending. In Fight Club, the surprise ending is threaded masterfully throughout the story. It's so well done.

THE VERDICT

Fight Club? It should be called "Right Club" because it's right in every way. No, I made a mistake. Fight Club is a better title, but the important thing you should know is the movie is really good. Everybody should watch it. This movie is very violent, but even if you don't like violence you should see it anyway because it's so ingenious and stylish and revolutionary and... good.
