G BABY'S QUICKIE REVIEW OF:
THE DEPARTED (2006)

    I'll admit I'm not much of a Martin Scorsese fan. I haven't seen Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Last Temptation Of Christ, Goodfellas, or Casino. Shit, I haven't even seen the one with the retarded rich guy who liked to fly airplanes. And to be honest, I never really had any desire to. I don't hate Scorsese, but for some reason I just don't care. However, the cast was so good in this one I just had to check it out. And The Departed ended up being the best crime thriller I have ever seen. It's 2 1/2 hours long but not a single frame is wasted. So much happens and every scene feels authentic, dirty, disturbing, hilarious, or all of the above. The writing, direction, and performances are all superb. I invested my feelings in every single character and it really effected me when most of them got shot in the forehead. I don't see how a movie in this genre could get any better than The Departed. For the first time in my life I'm interested in going back and looking at some of Scorsese's earlier work. I probably won't though cuz Fast And The Furious 3 just came out. So... yeah.
