G BABY'S QUICKIE REVIEW OF:
THE BROTHERS GRIMM

The idea behind this movie had so much potential, but something went terribly wrong. The story tried to include all the fairytales, which I thought was a cool idea, but the plot ended up muddled and confused. The characters weren't very interesting. Matt Damon and Heath Ledger did okay, but I think the fault was in the writing. The climactic confrontation, which should have built up throughout the whole movie, was instead played out during the first half. The two brothers spent pretty much the entire beginning squabbling with each other. Then in the second half they spent most of their time running around and screaming with no real resolution in the end. And I think Heath Ledger stabbed Matt Damon in the heart, but I can't be completely sure about that. The whole movie felt very chaotic, all over the place, and without focus. Terry Gilliam did an interesting job with the visuals but that's about it. The previews didn't really get my hopes up very much, but I was still disappointed. Oh well, at least I can always slip into my PJ's and watch 12 Monkeys. Bye.
