G BABY'S REVIEW OF:
ALADDIN

OPENING THOUGHTS

Aladdin is in my top two favorite Disney animated classics, second only to Beauty And The Beast. I feel lucky to have been at the target age for kids movies when these films first came out. It was a high point for Disney that I don't think had been seen since the 50's or 60's. And, although I do enjoy most of the Disney-Pixar movies, Disney hasn't really produced a truly great 2-D animated film since Aladdin.

ACTING

ROBIN WILLIAMS sucks sometimes. And sometimes he's fantastic, like in this movie. The Genie had phenomenal cosmic powers in the film, but it was Robin Williams who gave the character all its magic. I don't know if you've seen Return Of Jafar, but they tried to replace Robin Williams with Homer Simpson and it just didn't work for me. No sir, I need my Robin Williams. I need the yelling and the screaming and the black voice and all that.
SCOTT WEINGER voiced Aladdin. His voice was perfect for the part. He sounded like a street rat, but also a hero and a man-boy all in one. He's a good actor and even though he didn't do his own singing it was okay because they found a singer who sounds just like him.
LINDA LARKIN is the voice of Princess Jasmine and she also did a good job. She doesn't do her own singing either. In fact the only person who did do his own singing was Robin Williams. But oddly enough they were able to find a singer who sounds just like Linda Larkin too. I wonder how they did it. I hope they didn't violate any scientific ethical boundaries.
GILBERT GOTTFRIED voiced Iago the parrot. What can you say about Gilbert Gottfried? He has a very distinct voice that works well as a parrot. I guess that's what you can say 'bout Gilbert Gottfried.
FRANK WELKER plays Abu the monkey. He's really quite an incredible man and he's worth mentioning because he’s done voice work in over 500 movies and TV shows. If you've ever heard an animal sound in a movie, it was probably him. He's done tons of other random stuff too. He was the voice of Fred on Scooby-Doo. He also played some of the Gremlins. But I think my favorite thing he's done is the sound of Spock screaming in Star Trek III. And he's also the voice of Megatron in the new Transformers. So impress your friends with that knowledge. When you hear Megatron speak in Transformers you can yell out, "Hey that's Abu the monkey!" Everybody will think you're so cool. You're pretty much guaranteed to get fucked. Ohhhh... man... should I have said "fuck" in my review of this Disney children's movie? Ah fuck it. Why not? Nobody reads my reviews anyway.

DIRECTION AND SCRIPT

RON CLEMENTS, TED ELLIOTT, JOHN MUSKER, TERRY ROSSIO wrote this movie with about 18 other writers. Clements and Elliott also directed this movie together. I guess they needed two directors and 20 writers because at any given time somebody was getting sucked off... if you know what I mean. They did a great job doing whatever a director of an animated feature does. I don't know why it took 20 people to write this movie though. I think the best material came from Robin Williams and the best parts of the movie were the songs. I really enjoyed the Broadway feel of the musical numbers by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. I give them most of the credit for making this movie great. I look forward to the day when Disney can go back to musicals like this.

THE VERDICT

I love this movie. If you haven't seen it, you must. No if's, and's, or assholes about it.
