In addition to being the star and writer/director of this
film, Zach Braff also produced the Soundtrack for the album and chose the
songs which appeared in both the film and on CD. He was methodical about
the songs setting the mood for the film, and when searching for funding
he would send along a homemade CD of the music that would appear in the
film along with the script. His efforts paid off, he won a Grammy for his
work in 2004 for best Soundtrack.
-
Zach Braff based this film on his own experiences as a struggling
actor before making it big with the television series Scrubs. Many
of the locations seen and spoke of in the film are based on Braff's own
childhood growing up in New Jersey.
-
This film was financed primarily by a retired mortgage broker
named Gary Gilbert who gave Braff 2.5 million dollars of his own money
to make the film. The film was later purchased for 5 million dollars when
it premiered at Sundance.
-
Originally this film was titled Large's Ark, and while
the name didn't stick to the film, the name did stick for Braff's production
company, which is credited at the end of the film as Large's Ark Productions.
