WHAT THE STUDIO WANTS YOU TO KNOW
DESCRIPTION:
Yesterday, today, tomorrow.
Past, present, future. Through time and space, one man embarks on a bold
1000-year odyssey to defeat humankind's most indomitable foe: Death.
Hugh Jackman plays that man, devoted
to one woman (Rachel Weisz) and determined to protect her from forces that
threaten her existence. His Quest leads him to a Tree of Life... and to
an adventure into eternity. Darren Aronofsky (Pi, Requiem For
A Dream) directs, continuing his string of imaginative, involving filmmaking
with a tale alive with ideas and filled with astonishing vistas. "Not many
films can blow your mind and break your heart at the same time, but this
one will" (Drew McWeeny, Ain't It Cool News).

TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED

-
Originally this film was set to film in 2002. With a title
of The Last Man. the film had been cast starring Brad Pitt and Cate
Blanchett in the leads and had been given a budget of $75 million. However
after major on-set disputes between Brad Pitt and director Darren Aronofsky,
Pitt left the project to film Troy and the film was shut down. The
unused script was turned into a graphic novel illustrated by Kent Williams,
and the sets were all auctioned off in Australia. Aronofsky then reworked
the script and recast the leads as Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz who both
agreed to take a pay cut. The movie's budget was slashed to $35 million
and was released 4 years after the first version began production.
-
Originally this film was slapped with an "R" rating by the
MPAA, however the ruling was contested and without any cuts the film's
rating was lowered to "PG-13".
-
As with his previous films, Aronofsky started growing a beard
when production began and he did not shave it until the production was
completed.
-
Although restricted by budget, Aronofsky says that he chose
not to use CGI effects for this movie to give it a timeless feel. Instead
of computers, the effects in this movie were created by using microphotography
to capture chemical reactions on tiny petri dishes.
-
Aronofsky reportedly approached Hugh Jackman after one of
his performances of the stage play The Man From Oz and asked him
to star in the film, and Jackman after hearing the story committed to the
project on the spot.
-
Hugh Jackman actually had to shave off all of the hair on
his head and his chest for his role in this movie.
