• It is rumored that John Travolta was originally offered the role of Forrest Gump but turned it down, other people who were considered include Chevy Chase and Bill Murray.
• Barry Sonnenfield was also offered the director's chair but he passed on the project.
• The bench that Forrest Gump sits on throughout the movie is located in Savannah, Georgia. When the film became immensely popular the city of Savannah had the bench removed and placed in the city's museum.
• If you look at all of the photos of Forrest Gump seen in the movie you will see that he always appears in the photos with his eyes closed.
• In the beginning when young Forrest gets on the school bus the first boy that will not let Forrest sit next to him is Alexander Zemeckis, Robert Zemeckis' son. Further down the girl with the red hair is Tom Hanks' daughter Elizabeth Hanks.
