-
Robert De Niro's character Eddie Flemming was based off of
real-life NYPD detective Mike Sheehan, who was the lead investigative officer
in a made for TV movie The Preppie Murders which was also directed
by John Herzfeld.
-
Charlize Theron spoke the South African language Afrikaans
in this movie, and the words she used we grammatically correct. Her cameo
appearance in this movie was unpaid, as a thank you to John Herzfeld for
"discovering" her in his previous film 2 Days In The Valley.
-
Reportedly Edward Burns gained more than 20 pounds of muscle
for his role in this movie, in an effort to simulate the mass muscles that
an arson investigator would have achieved through their at least seven
years of fire service that is required to get that job.
-
All of the video camera scenes seen in this movie were actually
shot by Oleg Taktarov, who played Oleg in the film, and were shot using
a "consumer quality" video camera.
