WHAT THE STUDIO WANTS YOU TO KNOW
DESCRIPTION:
Ferris Bueller. Larger than
life. Blessed with a magical sense of serendipity. He's a model for all
those who take themselves too seriously. A guy who knows the value of a
day off.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off chronicles
the events in the day of a rather magical young man, Ferris (Matthew Broderick).
One spring day, toward the end of his senior year, Ferris gives in to an
overwhelming urge to cut school and head for downtown Chicago with his
girl (Mia Sara) and his best friend (Alan Ruck), to see the sights, to
experience a day of freedom and show that with a little ingenuity, a bit
of courage and a red Ferrari, life at 17 can be a joy!

-
This movie inspired a short lived TV series called Ferris
Bueller that ran for only one season from 1990 to 1991 on NBC. The
show starred Charlie Schlatter as Ferris Bueller and Jennifer Aniston as
his sister Jeannie Bueller.
-
Charlie Sheen, who only has a small role as a drug user in
the film, reportedly stayed awake for more than 48 hours to create the
look of an actual tweaker.
-
The role of Cameron was originally offered to Anthony Michael
Hall, but he turned down the role because he did not want to be type cast.
-
Alan Ruck, who ended up playing Cameron in the film was actually
30 years old at the time of filming, his character was supposed to be 17.
-
Cindy Pickett and Lyman Ward who played Ferris Bueller's
mom and dad in the movie, actually ended up marrying each other in real
life shortly after filming.
-
Since it was too expensive to use a real Ferrari in the film,
the producers actually made three fake cars using fiberglass to make the
outside of the car. The car they wanted it to look like was actually as
rare as they said in the film, and after the film's release Paramount received
many angry letters from car enthusiasts who thought they actually wrecked
the rare vehicle.
-
Ben Stein, who played the economics teacher in the film,
actually graduated with honors in 1966 with an economics degree, and for
his role he was told to improvise a lecture that he might give, as a result,
everything he said except for role call was made up on set.
