WHAT THE STUDIO WANTS YOU TO KNOW

    FBI agent Sean Archer (John Travolta) knows how to stop elusive terrorist Caster Troy (Nicolas Cage). He'll become him. Archer undergoes a futuristic surgery and has Troy's face mapped onto his, then infiltrates the terrorist's world to discover his deadly secrets. But as much as Archer looks and acts like Troy, he doesn't really know him. He never figures Troy will retaliate and force doctors to transform him into Archer. Now the agent faces a shattering nightmare: his archrival is living with his family.
    The Travolta/Cage star-power comes on strong and so does the excitement in this roaring thrill machine of a movie directed by John Woo (Broken Arrow). So buckle up. It's going to be a furious fight.

• Originally this film was supposed to take place in the future and the studio had wanted the title roles to be played by Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. When John Woo was hired on as the director he scrapped both of those ideas stating it would be more realistic with John Travolta and Nicolas Cage and if it was set in the present day. He also insisted on the "slash" mark in the title of the movie fearing people would think this was a movie about hockey.
• The two main characters' names: Castor Troy and Sean Archer are heavily influenced by Greek mythology and astronomy. Sean Archer presumably gets his last name from the constellation Sagittarius "The Archer" which is diametrically half way around the year from the constellation Gemini "The Twins". The two brightest stars in Gemini are Castor and Pollox who are the twin sons of Zeus in mythology. The twins fought in wars in Troy and one was given immortality while the other was not. It is said that Zeus took pity on the pair who were inseparable and he had them "split" the immortality. They would each spend half of their time in Hades and half of their time in the world of the living.
