DESCRIPTION:

Romance meets comedy in Woody Allen's first musical, and it's a glorious celebration of love that had audiences laughing and critics cheering. In intertwining stories, Joe's (Woody Allen) attempt to win the heart of Von (Julia Roberts) takes him to scenic Venice and Paris, while his ex-wife Steffi (Goldie Hawn) and her current husband, Bob (Alan Alda), deal with erupting family matters in their swank but crowded Manhattan apartment. In the meantime, Steffi and Bob's daughter, Skylar (Drew Barrymore), is torn between two boyfriends (Edward Norton and Tim Roth), adding to the complications. But through it all, Allen's dream cast knows the perfect moment to express their emotions with a classic love song or a hilarious production number. TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

All of the songs in this movie were sung by the actual actors, except for Drew Barrymore's song. She refused to sing, saying that her voice is so bad that she doesn't even sing in the shower. She also had to wear a wig for this film, because at the time her hair was colored purple.
Woody Allen wanted the actors to sound like average people singing, he didn't want them to sound like professional singers. So he cast people who were not known for singing, and didn't tell any of the actors the movie they were signing up for was a musical until after they had signed their contracts. Allen was so determined to have everyone sound like average singers he actually made Goldie Hawn re-do her singing telling her that she was singing too well.
Liv Tyler and Tracey Ullman were in several scenes in this movie, but Woody Allen decided to cut the scenes for time.
