The role of Drew Baylor was written with Orlando Bloom in
mind, but Bloom was already filming Kingdom Of Heaven so he could
not take the role. As a result the role went to Ashton Kutcher, however
director Cameron Crowe felt that Kutcher and Dunst had no chemistry so
Kutcher was let go. Several other people auditioned for the role, including
Seann William Scott who nearly landed the role, but by the time all of
this had transpired the shooting had been delayed long enough that Crowe
was able to convince producers to just hold out for Bloom.
-
Susan Sarandon only got the part of Hollie Baylor after Jane
Fonda dropped out of the part. She reportedly dropped the role because
of the numerous film delays.
-
Kirsten Dunst's character Claire, was written by Crowe with
her in mind, Dunst who had already committed to being in The Village
was at first unable to take the part, then at the last minute she dropped
out of the The Village, so she could take the part.
-
Before Dunst committed to the movie Jessica Biel auditioned
for the role of Claire, and although she didn't get it, she did end up
playing the part of Ellen.
