DESCRIPTION:

    One Christmas Eve long ago, a small orphan baby crawled into Santa's bag of gifts and was carried off to the North Pole. Named Buddy (Will Ferrell) and raised by Papa Elf (Bob Newhart), it soon became clear that he didn't fit in as he was much bigger than all of the other elves. Determined to find a place where he truly belongs, Buddy sets out to find his real dad - in New York City!
    Buddy soon discovers that the big city is no place for an elf and his dad (James Caan) is on the naughty list! But most importantly, he finds the world is seriously lacking in Christmas spirit causing Santa all kinds of problems!
    So with the help of a beautiful department store elf (Zooey Deschanel), Buddy tries to teach his dad and the world the true meaning of Christmas spirit and to prove to everyone that Santa (Ed Asner) really exists!

TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

The description on the slip sleeve of the DVD is different from the one on the back of the DVD case, that is the first time I have ever seen that. The especially weird part, is that they differ only slightly, something only a keen eye could spot, or someone who types out the back of movie boxes all the time.
The director of this movie, Jon Favreau is also an actor, he even made a cameo in this movie as the doctor.
The screenplay for this film was floating around Hollywood since 1993. Initially it was set to star Jim Carrey.
Several elements of this story were taken from the classic Christmas special Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer. Including the opening by the talking snowman, as well as the attire that the elves wear.
