TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED
FRIENDS
-
Viggo Mortensen spent weeks driving around St. Petersberg,
the Ural Mountains, and Moscow without the benefit of a translator to try
and discover first hand the sound and mannerisms of the Russians in preparation
for his role. Once he had the Siberian accent down he then learned his
lines in English, Russian and Ukranian. He also insisted on carrying around
a set of worry beads he made himself from melted down lighters he made
in a prison, and has his trailer decorated with popular Russian icons to
help keep himself in character.
-
The nude fight scene was shot without the benefit of stuntmen.
This segment alone took two days to shoot, this is not including the time
the actors spent learning various fighting styles that were used in the
scene.
-
Several actresses were considered for the role of Anna including
Rachel McAdams and Kate Beckinsale, although the role was ultimately won
by Naomi Watts.
-
Naomi Watts became pregnant early on during the filming of
this movie.
