TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

• This film is based on the comic strip created by Chester Gould.
• Although not advertised on the back of the box there is quite a large supporting cast inluding: Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Madonna, Paul Sorvino, James Caan and Dick Van Dyke just to name a few.
• Madonna agreed to play the part of Breathless Mahoney for a mere $35,000.
• The heavy makeup used in this film was to be as acurate as possible to the original characters as they were drawn in the comic strip. All with the exception of Big Boy, Al Pacino personally redesigned his makeup and the look of his character in the film.
• Warren Beatty feared there would not be a sequel to this movie and he requested that as many of the villans from the comic book as possible appear in the film. A total of 21 original comic villans are pictured in the movie, along with one made-up character who goes by the name "Numbers" who was created for the film.
• Before handing over the director's job to Warren Beatty, Disney offered the director's chair to Bob Fosse and Martin Scorsese who both turned the project down. While the role of Dick Tracy was offered to Robert De Niro and Jack Nicholson. When Disney finally asked Beatty to direct he agreed, but only if he could play the title role. Since they were having trouble casting the role anyway, they agreed to let him star as well.
