This film is based on the book of the same name by Dan Brown.
-
Joel Surnow, creator of the TV series 24 liked Dan
Brown's book so much that he wanted to adapt it as the 3rd season of his
show, however Dan Brown rejected his offer, Just months later he accepted
an offer of $6 million to have his book made into a feature film.
-
Ron Howard's first choice for Sophie was always Audrey Tautou,
but it took some convincing to get her to come and audition for the part.
She felt she was too young to star opposite Tom Hanks in the film. After
months of talks she finally agreed to audition and was instantly given
the part.
-
Jean Reno claims that he was told by Dan Brown that he wrote
his character in the book with Jean Reno in mind.
-
Director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer were invited
to a five minute sit down with French President Jaques Chirac, the meeting
turned into an hour long conversation in which the President offered his
assistance if they were denied filming access to The Louvre. He also suggested
the French actor Jean Reno get a pay raise and suggested that his daughter's
best friend be considered for the role of Sophie.
-
While filming was allowed in The Louvre, the crew was denied
access to Westminster Abbey, Saint-Sulpice, and The King's Library. As
a result several techniques were used to solve the problem. In some cases
the script was changed around locations that could not be used, while other
times the crew scouted out locations that resembled the famous landmarks
and passed them off as the real thing. In additon while filming was allowed
in Rosslyn Chapel, the outside was covered in scaffoldings as it was undergoing
restoration. The crew found a similar looking building and digitally "pasted"
the fake building over the real one.
-
Ron Howard's first choice for the role of Robert Langdon
was Bill Paxton, but Paxton turned down the role due to prior commitments.
Howard then considered Hugh Jackman, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes, and
nearly cast Russell Crowe before deciding on Tom Hanks.
