-
This movie is based on the book of the same name by Alexandre
Dumas. The screenwriter, Jay Wolpert, by his own admission says he tried
to change the movie from the book to make it more adaptable to the screen.
His biggest changes were adding more action scenes, and inventing a few
smaller characters.
-
Originally the lead role of Edmond Dantes was offered to
Guy Pearce, however he ended up taking the smaller role of Fernand Mondego.
-
During one of the scenes in which Jim Caviezel and Guy Pearce
are fencing each other, there was a missed move in the choreography and
Guy Pearce was actually stabbed in the side by Caviezel. Pearce was rushed
to the hospital where he was patched up and was ok to continue working.
Caviezel kept apologizing for the incident, but Pearce was not upset, in
fact he proudly bragged about the wound for the rest of the shoot.
