-
This movie is based on the 2002 book of the same name written
by Neil Gaimen, and has been previously adapted into a musical for the
MCC Theater in New York City.
-
This is the longest stop-motion animated film ever made,
as well as the first to be shot entirely in 3-D. This massive project took
over 2 years of pre-production and more than 18 months of shooting time.
The project was being worked on simultaneously on 52 different sound stages
which held more than 130 sets spanning more 183,000 feet at the Laika animation
headquarters outside Portland, Oregon.
-
The band They Might Be Giants wrote ten original songs for
the soundtrack of this film when this was originally conceived as a musical.
However the director of the film decided to scrap the musical idea and
only one song made it into the movie during the scene in which Coraline's
other father sings a song on the piano. The band has said they will release
the unused songs on later albums.
-
Director Henry Selick had his image placed on the dollar
bill that is given to the movers as a tip.
-
Actual little sweaters and clothing were required for the
puppets seen in the film, as such a crew member was hired whose sole job
it was to knit clothing for the characters, however since the puppets were
so small, it required using needles the size of human hair.
