This movie is based on the book of the same name by John
Le Carre.
In the scenes where the movie is seen from Justin's point
of view, the camera was actually run by Ralph Fiennes.
Fernando Meirelles was only picked to direct the movie after
Mike Newell dropped off the project because he was asked to helm Harry
Potter And The Goblet Of Fire.
The filmmakers tried to help out the impoverished people
of Kiberia who actually live in the slums seen in the movie. They built
classrooms, water tanks, even a bridge, and also set up The Constant Gardener
Trust, whose funds go directly to help Kiberian residents.
Officials in Kenya originally banned the book on which this
movie is based due to the corrupt Kenyan Officials that are a part of the
story.
