TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED
FRIENDS
-
The role of Vincent was not originally offered to Tom Cruise,
it was first offered to Edward Norton, Russell Crowe, and Collin Farrell.
-
Jamie Foxx was not initially cast as Max either, Adam Sandler
was offered the role and even met with Michael Mann before Jamie Foxx was
decided on.
-
Even Mark Ruffalo was not originally cast as Detective Fanning,
that role was offered to Val Kilmer who had to drop the role due to scheduling
conflicts with Alexander.
-
Michael Mann was not even the first choice to direct this
movie, the reigns were offered to Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee, and Steven
Spielberg.
-
A draft of this script was penned by Shawshank Redemption
writer Frank Darabont, before it was decided to use Stuart Beattie's version.
-
The full name of Tom Cruise's character is Vincent Collateral,
and the original name of this film was Mr. Collateral, however producers
of the film thought was a stupid name, so he had all the lines in the movie
where Vincent's full name is said cut and changed the name to just Collateral.
-
Michael Mann made Tom Cruise deliver UPS packages to crowded
buildings without letting people recognize him. The goal was to help him
understand his character and how he remains inconspicuous and can move
in and out of places without being seen.
-
Stuart Beattie's script took place in New York, but Michael
Mann moved the movie to LA. Beattie had asked that Robert De Niro be cast
in Jamie Foxx's role, because he wanted De Niro to play a cabbie that was
the opposite of his role in Taxi Driver. The producers turned him
down saying they needed someone younger.
