-
As of 10/25/2006 this movie is ranked #117 on the imdb.com
top 250 movies of all time list.
-
Before deciding on calling this film Annie Hall several
other titles were thrown around including: It Had To Be Jew, A
Roller Coaster Named Desire, and Anhedonia.
-
Several big stars are in this film in small roles including:
Paul Simon as Tony Lacey, Christopher Walken (who was mistakenly credited
as Christopher Wlaken) as Duane Hall, Jeff Goldblum as a party guest, Beverly
D'Angelo as an actress in a TV show, Sigourney Weaver as Alvy's date in
her non-speaking film debut, and Truman Capote as the guy Alvy wants to
know if he is entering a Truman Capote look-alike contest. Danny Aiello
and Harvey Fierstein also had small roles but there scene was deleted from
the final cut of the film.
-
This film was originally written as a murder mystery with
the Annie Hall romance as a sub-plot. However when it was decided to focus
solely on the romance, the story was saved and then written into it's own
film in 1993 by Woody Allen and Marshall Brickman, the film was Manhattan
Murder Mystery.
-
Many scenes were cut from this film which was originally
more than 2 hours long. One scene involved a traffic advisory sign which
sent a message to Alvy that he should go to California after Annie. Woody
Allen said the scene was over the top "cutsey" and was so upset with the
footage he reportedly through it into the East River. This idea later became
the basis for the film L.A. Story.
-
The scene in which Alvy sneezes into the cocaine he is offered
was not planned, it was an actual sneeze, when the scene was tested it
got so many laughs that Allen decided to not only keep it in, but also
added additional footage after the scene since it got so many laughs people
laughed through the dialogue of the next scene.
-
Diane Keaton's actual name is Diane Hall, and interestingly
enough her friends have always called her by her nickname Annie.
-
The clothes that Annie Hall wears in this film were almost
entirely all Diane Keaton's own clothes.
