Billy Bob Thornton, Ben Affleck, Clive Owen, Matt Damon,
and Mark Wahlberg were all considered for the role of Jimmy Braddock.

Before Ron Howard signed on to direct, Lasse Hallstrom and
Penny Marshall had considered helming this film.

To create realism for this movie, the opponents that Crowe
faces off with are real boxers who were told to hit as close to Crowe as
possible so the shots looked real. However, there were several incidents
where the hits connected, as a result Crowe had several cracked teeth and
numerous concussions. He also suffered a dislocated shoulder during training
which caused a two month delay in filming. Crowe also dropped fifty pounds
for this role.

The real Jimmy Braddock's granddaughter appears in this movie,
her name is Rosemary DeWitt and she played the role of Sara Wilson who
was Braddock's neighbor.
