WHAT THE STUDIO WANTS YOU TO KNOW
DESCRIPTION:
Directed by Sir Richard Attenborough
and starring Robert Downey Jr. and an extraordinary cast, Chaplin
is a loving, grand scale portrait of the Little Tramp's amazing life and
times. His poverty-stricken childhood in England comes to life, along with
his friendships with Mack Sennett (Dan Aykroyd) and Douglas Fairbanks (Kevin
Kline), his many wives and scandalous affairs, and his relentless pursuit
by J. Edgar Hoover. Chaplin is the larger-than-life story of the
actor behind the icon and a stunning depiction of a bygone era when Hollywood
was at its most glamorous.

-
This movie is based on the books My Autobiography
by Charles Chaplin as well as Chaplin: His Life And Art written
by David Robinson.
-
Geraldine Chaplin is the real-life daughter of Charlie Chaplin,
and since she was cast in this film in the role of Hannah Chaplin, this
means that she was portraying her real-life grandmother.
-
Mila Jovovich was only 16 years old at the time this movie
was filmed, as a result, a body double had to be used during her brief
nudity scene.
-
More than 200 hours of film was shot while filming this movie.
Attenborough's first cut of the film came in at just over four hours in
length. The final cut released in theaters came in at 135 minutes long,
however director Richard Attenborough released a director's cut version
of the film with an additional 12 minutes added back into the film, minutes
that he says were a mistake to cut.
-
Bryan Forbes had written a script based on Chaplin's life,
however the studio felt it focused too much on the dark parts of the actor's
life and they discarded it. However the Writers Guild Of America insisted
that he receive a writing credit on this film as they felt that the original
script was used as a framework for this film.
