CHAMP'S QUICKIE REVIEW OF:
THE BROTHERS GRIMM

Man, I was disappointed. I read reviews about this film, and most of them were mediocre. I tried to not let that sway me, and tried to put my hope into Terry Gilliam. If Terry Gilliam directed it, it shouldn't suck, right?! The concept was cool, and I felt this would be a perfect film for Gilliam's form.  I'm not going to blame Mr. Gilliam. I'm going to blame Ehren Kruger for his muddled script, and the Weinstein's for not giving Gilliam the freedom he needs to create. The movie looks awesome, the period decor is perfect, the special effects are okay (except for the cgi), the acting works, but the story sucks! Too much is forced in, and the film can't support all the ideas. It bogs things down, and the film struggles to keep it's head above water. Rent this movie, and don't expect too much.
