CHAMP'S REVIEW OF:
THE ARISTOCRATS

OPENING THOUGHTS

This documentary is about a well known joke that apparently has crafted many of the comedians we know today. I've never heard the joke before, never knew why it's so foul, or why it's renowned as the dirtiest joke ever told. Well, truthfully, it didn't start out that way, but as time went on, and interpretations were done, it became a joke that eventually consisted of three things: incest, poo poo, and pee pee. Now with a combination of those things, how can it not be funny?

ACTING

BOB SAGET's interpretation of the joke, was by far the longest, but was probably the weirdest and most bizarre. The man went everywhere with it, made things up, such as "neck-fisting" and various other horrific and hilarious combinations of what-have-you. As Saget continued, all I could think of in the back of my mind was, "this is Danny Tanner from Full House! This is the guy from funniest home videos!" and that made me laugh even harder.
GILBERT GOTTFRIED's edition evidently saved comedy after 9/11, and was probably the funniest thing on the Hugh Hefner's Roast. I know some of you find him annoying, but when that annoying voice talks about Popeye sized arms fisting his daughter, you'll see him and laugh at him, in an entirely new light.
THE SUPPORTING CAST was good too, especially Taylor Negron, who I knew looked familiar, but could never really figure out from where. He gave the best interpretation of the joke in my opinion. The man defines comedic timing, his pauses and blank looks, his descriptions and adjectives, they only added to the magic. It was freaking hilarious.

DIRECTION AND SCRIPT

PAUL PROVENZA directed the documentary, and while there was many comedians, and most of the interpretations were all funny, the film really has no form. It's a jumbled compilation of the comedians interpretation of a joke. It starts out with the history of the joke, and what it is, but seems to lose track after awhile, and just jumps from comedian to comedian.  Not that they're not funny mind you, but it seems disconnected until the movie ends. I was impressed with the number of comedians they got to be in the film, and I'm sure they're grateful as well, because they wouldn't have had a film without them.

THE VERDICT

Overall, the subject matter is filthy, disgusting, and downright wrong. It is however, entertainingly funny, because it's so bad it's good. However, this film isn't for everyone. I wouldn't watch this film with my family, however, I might take them to a talent agency, and poo and pee on them. ARISTOCATS!
