DESCRIPTION:
Casino Royale introduces
James Bond before he holds his license to kill. But Bond is no less dangerous,
and with two professional assassinations in quick succession, he is elevated
to "00". "M" (Judi Dench), head of the British Secret Service, sends the
newly-promoted 007 on his first mission that takes him to Madagascar, the
Bahamas and eventually leads him to Montenegro to face Le Chiffre, a ruthless
financier under threat from his terrorist clientele, who is attempting
to restore his funds in a high-stakes poker game at the Casino Royale.
"M" places Bond under the watchful eye of the Treasury official Vesper
Lynd. At first skeptical of what value Vesper can provide, Bond's interest
in her deepens as they brave danger together. Le Chiffre's cunning and
cruelty come to bear on them both in a way Bond could never imagine, and
he learns his most important lesson: Trust no one.

Back in 1999 Sony wanted to make a remake of Casino Royale
as MGM owned the rights to all of the James Bond novels except Royale.
However MGM sued Sony to stop the production as it had a copyright on James
Bond itself. Sony stopped filming and was forced to pay 5 million to MGM.
But just six years later in 2005 Sony bought MGM and the remake was up
and rolling.
-
Quentin Tarantino had also expressed interest in remaking
Casino
Royale and had teamed up with Pierce Brosnan to discuss the project.
However when MGM announced it would not be bringing Brosnan back Tarantino
publicly denounced MGM's decision and saying Brosnan was the only one he
would work with and dropped off the project. However Tarantino was never
actually hired by MGM or even in talks with him to direct the film.

Although it is the first book in the series and has been
represented in parody and a very early TV movie, this was the last book
to be adapted from an Ian Fleming novel. EON studios has now used every
book in the series written by Fleming, so future titles will now need to
be original scripts or remakes of past Bond films.
-
In the scene where Bond's Aston Martin rolls, a record was
broken, no other car has been able to be rolled seven full times even when
assisted by an air cannon, as was the case with this movie.
-
This is the longest James bond film to date, beating out
On
Her Majesty's Secret Service by 4 minutes.
-
This marks the first time in it's entire 44 year run that
rain is seen in a James Bond movie.
-
The historic Pinewood studios where Bond movies are usually
filmed burned down shortly after filming wrapped. This is the second time
it has burned down, it first burned down right before filming began in
the 1985 Bond movie A View To A Kill.
-
Daniel Craig is the youngest person to ever play James Bond,
in fact he is the first actor to be younger than 40 to play the role, and
gained 20 pounds of muscle for the role.
-
Many other actors were considered for the role of James Bond,
according to one source at EON productions, more than 200 actors were considered
for the role, many of whom had no idea they were being considered, while
others knew they had a shot but only found out they did not get the role
when it was announced on TV that Daniel Craig had landed the role.
