• This movie is based off the book by Nicholas Pileggi who co-wrote the screenplay with director Martin Scorsese. This was the second script the duo wrote, the first was Goodfellas which also starred Scorsese favorite Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci.
• Sharon Stone beat out Madonna for her role in this film.
• The white and gold dress that Sharon Stone wears in this film reportedly weighed more than 45 pounds.
• Joe Pesci broke the very same rib as he broke in Raging Bull when he pushed into the cornfield hole.
• Martin Scorsese hired many criminals and FBI agents from the era as consultants on this movie.
• The events in this movie are based on fact, however the names were all changed. The real casino where these events took place was The Stardust, The Tangiers is a completely fictional name. Robert De Niro's character Sam "Ace" Rothstein s based on real life mobster Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal. Most of the other characters are also based on real mobsters.
• "Fuck" is said an amazing 422 times in this movie.
• Scorsese said that the vice scene was filmed to draw the MPAA's attention away from the rest of the violence in the film. He assumed they would object and he would cut that scene and get to keep the rest of the movie. He was surprised to find they did not object at all so he modified the scene a little bit and kept the scene in the movie.
