So when I went to see this movie I
really did not know what to expect, mostly because they did a terrible
job marketing it. I had only seen the preview and all I knew was that it
was about a guy who goes around firing people. A bold choice given the
current economic climate. Being a poker player I was very aware of
the heavy American Airlines product placement used in this movie. You see,
in poker terms when you are dealt two pocket aces it is known as American
Airlines and it's my favorite hand to get. Every time I saw American Airlines
in this movie all I thought about was what I could have done with that
hand. After seeing their name about 50 times without making a single dime
off of it, I started getting into a bad mood. That being said. George Clooney
was the Clooney that I like in films. He was witty, biting and constantly
putting people in uncomfortable situations. The script was amazing as well.
I can usually watch comedies without laughing out loud due to my practiced
poker face, but when I noticed myself laughing at the dialogue I started
to realize just how good the script actually was. If you don't go to the
movie theater to go see this one do yourself a favor and at least rent
the damn thing. I look forward to this one getting a nod for Screenwriting
at the Oscars, but wouldn't be surprised if The Aacademy made fools of
us all and nominated Avatar instead.
