There are movies and then there are
movies. This movie puts forth the premise that people don't ever really
say what they mean. I think there are many points in a man's life where
this seems to be true. In fact I have never personally really come right
out and said what I truly feel about anything. I know that this may come
as a shock to some, especially being someone that routinely gives their
opinion about film. I have often professed my love for a film and why I
think that it is good, but it doesn't really explain how I truly feel for
the film itself. This film has a language that will not understood by all.
I don't want to say that it is a language that is only understood by men,
but I don't know of any women that could truly understand the subtext.
If you have watched the movie The Straight Story by David Lynch,
and you truly understand what is being said then there is a good chance
that maybe, just maybe you would get it. I want to say it is the language
of what is not said rather than that of what is spoken. There is one thing
that I cannot leave unspoken however, and that is my praise for the writers,
and since writers never get enough credit, I will give it here. This movie
was written by Chris Provenzano and C. Gaby Mitchell. I liked the way this
film was written so much that I actually sat through the credits looking
for the writers, but could not even locate their names. Maybe I blinked
or they put it under a strange title or something but I was really disappointed
by that. This flick is definitely one that people should put on their rental
list. It's a little slow, but I'm glad I was able to catch this one.
