DESCRIPTION:
Master filmmaker Martin Scorsese
brings heart-pounding suspense to one of the most acclaimed thrillers of
all time.
Fourteen years after being imprisoned,
vicious psychopath Max Cadey (Robert De Niro) emerges with a single-minded
mission: to seek revenge on his attorney Sam Bowden (Nick Nolte).
Cady becomes a terrifying presence
as he menacingly circles Bowden's increasingly unstable family. Realizing
he is legally powerless to protect his beautiful wife Leigh (Jessica Lange)
and his troubled teenage daughter Danielle (Juliette Lewis), Sam resorts
to unorthodox measures which lead to an unforgettable showdown on Cape
Fear.
Visually stunning images and brilliant
performances from a talented cast highlight this roller-coaster ride through
relentless psychological torment.

-
This movie is a remake of the 1962 film of the same name
written by James R. Webb, which was itself based on a book The Executioners
by John D. MacDonald.
-
Three of the stars of the 1962 version make appearances in
this movie. Gregory Peck appears as Max Cady's lawyer, Robert Mitchum played
Lt. Elgart, and Martin Balsam played a judge. This would be Gregory Peck's
last feature film.
-
Robert De Niro did a lot of preparation for his role in this
movie. He extensively researched the behavior of sexual predators, he paid
a dentist $5,000 to mess up his teeth (it would cost an additional $20,000
to fix them again afterward), he toned his muscles reportedly getting his
body fat level down to a mere 3%, and got extensive body tattoos made of
vegetable dye which fade off after a few months.
-
Originally Steven Spielberg was supposed to direct this movie,
however he gave up filming this movie due to several big projects including
Jurassic
Park and Schindler's List. Scorsese had first been asked by
Spielberg to direct Schindler's List but refused, later when Spielberg
decided he would direct it himself he handed this movie to Scorsese.
