WHAT THE STUDIO WANTS YOU TO KNOW
DESCRIPTION:
Jim Carrey is Chip Douglas,
cable installer. Raised on television sitcoms, he wants life to look just
like
My Three Sons. And when he meets single guy Steven Kovacs (Matthew
Broderick), he sees his chance for some serious male bonding. But Chip's
idea of friendship - which includes physical assault, a game of 'Porno
Password' and a medieval joust - may be hazardous to Steven's health. In
Chip's own immortal words, "I can be your best friend... or your worst
enemy."
Directed by Ben Stiller (Reality
Bites), The Cable Guy is "the perfect comedy for the TV generation.
Jim Carrey's comic genius is frightening." (George Pannacchio, CBS-TV
San Diego)

TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED

-
Look for early appearances from Jack Black, Owen Wilson,
Ben Stiller, David Cross, Andy Dick, Janeane Garofalo, Bob Odenkirk, and
Kyle Gass.
-
This movie was written for Chris Farley, but Farley was unable
to assume the role of Chip Douglas due to scheduling conflicts.
-
Apparently Jim Carrey could hardly even dribble a basketball,
so the scenes in which Carrey plays basketball, all he is doing is miming
the action, the actual ball was added in using special effects.
-
This was only Owen Wilson's second movie, his first being
Bottle
Rocket, but more importantly it is the first time we see Owen Wilson
and Ben Stiller combine forces, forces that would combine many times over
years to come.
-
Although only credited as a producer Judd Apatow also claimed
he wrote many scenes in this movie, along with a bulk of the dialogue,
however he was denied a credit by the Screenwriters Guild Of America. Although
he challenged the ruling his name remains uncredited.
