This film was adapted from the play of the same name which
was also written by Tracy Letts, the same person who adapted the script
to film.

This entire film was shot in less than two month, according
to the actors Friedkin never did more than four takes for a single scene,
and the actors frequently had to beg for him to do a second take on a scene
that Friedkin felt was fine.

Ashley Judd said in an interview that when she first met
William Friedkin she complimented him on his direction of the film The
French Connection II, which Friedkin did not actually direct.

The apartment set was actually constructed in the high school
gym of Metairie, Louisiana.
