This movie was filmed on location at Sam Clemente High School, the same high school that writer/director Rian Johnson attended. The main character Brendan even references a teacher from the school, Mrs. Kasprzyk who is an actual English teacher at the school.
According to an article on this film seen in The New Yorker, this film was edited entirely on a home computer.
During the "Halloween In January" party, a girl with long hair and a cooler with wheels on it can be seen, this is May, the main character in the film May which was edited by writer/director Rian Johnson.
