one day comes home to find two thugs have broken in and ruined his favorite

The Dude is based on a real life person by the name of Jeff
"The Dude" Dowd, an independent film promoter who helped the Coen's promote
their first movie Blood Simple. As said in the movie, he actually
was a member of The Seattle Seven.

The Coens wrote the script with Jeff Bridges and John Goodman
in mind.

The word "fuck" is said 281 times in this film, while the
word "man" is said only 144 times.

Many of the clothes worn by The Dude in this movie are Jeff
Bridges own clothes, including a T-Shirt that shows an Asian holding a
baseball bat, that same shirt was worn by Bridges in The Fisher King.
